Item Despawn Times
Prime Vanilla uses custom despawn times for certain items as a performance optimization. This helps reduce server lag by removing common "garbage blocks" and frequently dropped items more quickly than the standard 5-minute despawn time.
How It Works
Items with custom despawn times will disappear from the world faster than normal items. This is particularly useful for:
- Common blocks that accumulate during building/mining
- Leaves and plant materials
- Stone variants that pile up during excavation
- Other frequently dropped items that can cause lag
Custom Despawn Times
45 Seconds (900 ticks)
The following items despawn after 45 seconds:
- Leaves: Acacia, Birch, Dark Oak, Jungle, Oak, Spruce
- Stone Types: Andesite, Cobblestone, Diorite, Granite, Netherrack
- Natural Blocks: Dirt, Gravel, Sand, Red Sand
- Plant Materials: Bamboo, Cactus, Kelp, Short Grass, Sugar Cane
- Vines: Twisting Vines, Weeping Vines
- Other: Melon Slice, Pumpkin, Scaffolding
20 Seconds (400 ticks)
- Totem of Undying: 20 seconds
Important Notes
- All other items follow the standard Minecraft despawn time of 5 minutes
- These custom times only apply to dropped items, not items in containers
- This system helps maintain server performance during large building projects and mining operations
- Times are measured from when the item is dropped, not when a player last saw it
Performance Benefits
This optimization significantly reduces lag in areas with heavy mining, building, or farming activity by preventing the accumulation of thousands of dropped items.
