How to Build a Gold Farm on the Nether Roof

Gold farms are one of the most efficient ways to gather gold ingots, gold nuggets, and experience in Minecraft. By building your gold farm on the Nether roof, you can maximize spawn rates and efficiency due to the flat, spawn-proof surface. This guide will walk you through the steps to create a simple and effective gold farm on the Nether roof.

Materials Needed

  • Obsidian (for Nether portals)
  • Flint and steel
  • Trapdoors (wooden or iron)
  • Turtle eggs (optional, for attracting piglins)
  • Magma blocks or slabs (for spawning platforms)
  • Hoppers
  • Chests
  • Building blocks (any type)
  • Name tags (for zombie pigmen if needed)
  • Minecart with hopper (optional, for item collection)
  • Glass (optional, for spawn-proofing)

Step 1: Access the Nether Roof

  1. Go to the Nether and reach the top layer of bedrock (Y=127).
  2. Use an ender pearl glitch or ladder + trapdoor trick to get above the bedrock.
  3. Mark your portal location for easy return.

Step 2: Build the Farm Platform

  1. Choose a spot on the Nether roof, away from other portals or structures.
  2. Create large spawning platforms using magma blocks or slabs. Magma blocks are ideal as they damage piglins and zombified piglins.
  3. Place trapdoors along the edges to trick mobs into walking off the platform.

Step 3: Add Collection System

  1. Place hoppers and chests below the platforms to collect drops.
  2. You can use minecart with hopper systems for larger farms to cover more area.

Step 4: Increase Spawn Rates

  1. Light up or slab the surrounding Nether roof to prevent mobs from spawning outside your farm.
  2. Build multiple layers of platforms for higher efficiency.

Step 5: Optional - Use Turtle Eggs

  1. Place turtle eggs in the center of your platforms to attract zombified piglins, making them walk off the edge.

Example Layout

A simple gold farm consists of several large magma block platforms with trapdoors on the edges, turtle eggs in the center, and a hopper collection system below. For best results, AFK at least 24 blocks above the platforms.

Happy farming!
